The Molecular Microbiology group, located at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is looking for a research technician with experience in Molecular Biology.

Job descriptionOur international research group is active in the field of protein trafficking in bacteria with applications in the development of antibiotics and vaccines. We share a lab in the new OI2 research building with the Medical Microbiology and Infection control group. Technically, our work involves Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry with a focus on protein interactions. The successful applicant will participate in our research projects and work in close collaboration with other technicians, PhD students and senior scientists. In addition he/she will assist in practical courses and perform lab management tasks.
Your dutiesPlay a constructive and responsible role in the daily management of the laboratory.
In particular you will:
- support the research projects of the section Molecular Microbiology
- ensure that equipment is in optimal working order
- instruct and support other lab members
- assist in practical courses
- a qualification in laboratory skills, i.e. Hoger Laboratorium Onderwijs or equivalent
- demonstrated hands-on experience with recombinant DNA techniques such as PCR and cloning
- experience in protein expression, purification and analysis
- strong communication, organization and social skills; high competence in either English or Dutch (both are preferred)
- eam player with the ability to work independently
- strong motivation for scientific research
What are we offering?A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,656 (scale 8)
and a maximum €3,548 (scale 8), depending on your education and experience.
The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.
The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension.

Molecular Microbiology Group
The Molecular Microbiology group belongs to the Molecular Cell Biology department and the Amsterdam Institute for Molecules, Medicines and Systems (AIMMS; https:// www.aimms.vu.nl/en/index.aspx). Within the group we are interested in the mechanisms of protein trafficking in model and pathogenic bacteria. This also forms the basis of more applied projects in which we develop antimicrobials. The section is also involved in teaching such as the BSc programs “Biology”, “Biomedical Sciences”, “Health and Life Sciences” and the MSc programs “Biomolecular Sciences” and “Infectious Diseases”.
